Noordwest Hospital Group
The Noordwest Hospital Group in Alkmaar, Netherlands, embarked on a comprehensive renovation of its main location to continue providing high-quality, safe, and innovative care to residents of the Northwest Netherlands.
The project aimed to create buildings that facilitate care innovation, are more compact, flexible, and sustainable.
Phase 1 of the renovation, started at the end of 2023, focusing on constructing a new acute axis spanning 35,000 square meters. This new construction will house critical hospital facilities, including operating theaters, the emergency plaza, intensive care units, nursing wards, and an underground car park.
The Hydronic Challenge
The project faced several obstacles, including the need to transition from initially planned competitor products to IMI’s technical solutions. Implementing the 6-way combination solution presented difficulties due to significant differences in liters between cooling and heating. Additionally, existing facilities equipped with third party product brands required conversion to IMI Pneumatex by ESC.
The Solution
IMI provided customised solutions to overcome these challenges. Prefabricated by the customer, the 6-way combination proved effective, especially in addressing issues related to ceiling height. This solution was chosen to apply control with one flow controller per end user, saving material by reducing the number of pipes and making each end unit smaller. Although energy savings were not yet applicable during the construction phase, IMI products were strategically installed to optimise system performance, enhancing heating and cooling efficiency while also reducing costs.
