The Project

The project, located in Stavanger, Norway, encompassed two steps

Due to the absence of district cooling/heating, a new local central system was implemented to manage cooling and heating. The system utilised electrical heat pumps, earth collectors, and propane heat pumps, with four systems operating at large volumes.

The Hydronic Challenge

In this project, several challenges emerged: the absence of district cooling/heating required implementing a new local central system to manage cooling and heating; the system’s design included various components like electrical heat pumps, earth collectors, and propane heat pumps; and four systems operating at large volumes necessitated specialised equipment, including two pumps and large tanks provided by Transfero, to meet the demand.

The Solution

To address these challenges, the solution aimed to streamline operations by integrating expansion and degassing into a single unit. Transfero units were chosen due to their size and capability to handle both gas and expansion in one unit, allowing for a single product to effectively manage the mentioned challenges.

Several hundred compact P valves and STAD/STAP valves were installed, significantly reducing the time required to balance the systems and preventing noise during low-load operations. Additionally, 10-15 Vento units were installed in the buildings to maintain water quality. Each building was equipped with heat exchangers, necessitating degassers for multiple systems. Both the local energy plant and the buildings featured numerous large STAF valves to balance and document the flow.

While it is challenging to determine the project’s total value precisely due to multiple orders from various installers and OTC dealers over several years, the project holds substantial value.
