Why should you upgrade your building's performance?

The current state of our planet demands urgent action. With energy consumption surpassing sustainable levels, it is crucial that we all make a difference. While new energy technologies and storage solutions are developing, the most effective way to reduce our energy footprint is to cut down on existing consumption or optimise our energy utilisation.

With the load of HVAC systems in global energy consumption, building performance is now under intense scrutiny. Governments are implementing financial incentives and stricter regulations to compel building owners to improve energy efficiency. In March 2023, the European Parliament passed a new directive* for the Climate and Resilience Act, mandating property owners to renovate energy-intensive homes or face penalties when selling or renting.

This movement is driving a noticeable shift in the real estate market, with tenants increasingly prioritising spaces with green certification labels, while investors are showing a growing interest in businesses with a strong ESG profile. As energy costs rise, enhancing building performance for energy savings has become a paramount concern for real-estate owners and developers.

At IMI, we believe that significant energy savings can be achieved without drastic measures. Our experts specialise in fine-tuning hydronic systems, determining the cost-effective actions that unlock maximum energy savings with minimal disruption.

To achieve these improvements, it is essential to understand how HVAC systems operate and where inefficiencies typically occur.

How to improve HVAC system efficiency

Improving HVAC system efficiency starts with understanding how hydronic systems operate in real conditions. Many buildings experience inefficiencies due to poor system balancing, limited visibility of performance data and incorrect system settings. These issues can lead to energy waste, inconsistent comfort and increased operational costs.

A structured approach is required to identify and address these inefficiencies. This includes analysing system performance, measuring flow and pressure conditions, and identifying optimisation opportunities across the system.

Digital tools and data-driven insights play an increasingly important role in supporting accurate assessment and long-term performance monitoring, helping building professionals make more informed decisions.

Solutions such as HyPerformance combine engineering expertise with data-driven analysis to help identify the most effective optimisation actions and ensure sustainable improvements in system performance.

This is where a structured, expert-led approach becomes essential.
